Classroom economy without money?

I have searched previous posts on classroom economies and have come up with some great ideas and resources!! I really want to do a classroom economy but want to make it as simple for me as possible! What I am wondering is...If I keep have students do individual credit and debit logs and then I write paychecks each week, is it really necessary to cash those paychecks? Can I teach them to use it like a bank account where they balance their checkbooks when a check is received and when they make purchases?

Also, I need as many ideas as possible to avoid spending money. What kinds of things can I offer to sell that will cost me ZERO?

Thank you!

I do think you can teach them to use it like a bank account. That's a valuable skill.

Things to sell
:
homework passes
sitting with a friend
being line leader
buying a class job
sitting at the teacher's desk during a lesson
extended recess (staying out with another class if you stagger)
etc...

Depending on your grade level, I think "balancing" would be a super skill to teach. I teach 2nd and think it would be a bit too complicated for my little ones but possibly not for some older kiddos. Good luck with it! If you PM me with your email, I will send you copies of my free "prize" tickets (they are too large to attach here). You could change the prices to make sense with your pay rate.

Best wishes with your economy. This will be my first year using a "full-blown" economy. Keep us posted on how your's is going. I would love to hear.
