Any creative ideas on what to use besides the plastic things you can buy? Our school mascot is a Mustang and one of the teachers uses real horseshoes. It's so cute - but I don't have time to go out and shop. We start tomorrow and I completely forgot to get those! The pass that I used last year was too gross to use again so I tossed it. I don't have a specific theme for my room so any suggestions would be welcome. Our school colors are blue & silver. Any ideas?

I'm just wondering why you need them. We've never had them at our school, and I'm just trying to envision how they help. I guess I see the need in middle school and HS when the kids could be cutting class, but not at the elem. level. Just curious!

I made some for you. They were created in Print Shop (I hope you have it so you can open this). Print them on card stock and buy the self laminating film sheets from Wal Mart (In school supply section) This is sturdier than school laminating.

I went to our local army recruiter and he gave me things that hang around your neck and have a badge clip on the end (I don't know what they are called). I made passes on PrintShop and ran them on cardstock. I slipped them into a badge holder and clipped them on. I velcroed a little hanger thing on the side of my file cabinet and hang them there. If they need one, they put it around like a necklace. In 2 years I haven't lost a pass yet! When I had hand held ones they were left everywhere! Let me know if I have thoroughly confused you and I'll take a pic at school.

Hall passes they wear round their neck are less likely to be lost - I've used crafty painted ones, those ID badge holders, as well as the kind you clip on your clothes. I also found some really cute luggage tags (shaped like kids!) I may use on a ribbon this year. Last year I purchased longer ones, very cute but too big for around the neck. I had the kids lay those on their desks when they left the room so I still knew who was gone where.

I use paint stir sticks that I get FREE at Lowe's or Home Depot. They are blank on one side and there I write w/ perm. marker what the pass is for, ie. Office Pass, Boys' Bathroom, etc. and my room number. Then I attach magnetic tape to the back and they stick to the door jam. Or you can buy an empty quart paint can and decorate it and put your sticks in that.

craft store such as Michael's has door hangers
they are foam rubber and you can draw and/or write on them

Thanks everyone for the great ideas!! You guys are always so helpful!

Roo - There are many children who go in and out all day to go to sped classes who could easily sneak away - and it's been done. It is our school policy that any student who is out of the classroom for any reason has to have some sort of a pass to indicate where they are going.
