Clip to ScrapBook #1

We are doing a monthly potluck at school. To make it more interesting, we were going to do "themes". What is a good theme for September?

Thanks!

Because it's back to school I was thinking of things that get packed in school lunches. So people could bring breads, meats, condiments, pickles, cheeses, chips, instead of pudding cups something like a mousse or cake, cupcakes but homemade ones, fruit salad, etc. Kind of like picnic kind of foods. It's not hot enough for things like chili or crock pot things yet so maybe sandwiches would be good.

I like the lunchbox theme.

I was thinking like an apple theme. The different dishes could have some kind of apple theme. Of course if someone doesn't like apples lunch would be horrible.

lunchbox theme for Sept is a cute idea! I kept thinking of ones that would work other times during the year. When we did this we had one month that was salads, one that was a baked potato bar, we had a harvest one, a soup one. I wish we still did it! Maybe I'll suggest a lunchbox themed potluck!

Comfort foods- bring your favorite homemade comfort food or Mom's Best

Mexican Fiesta

Italian appetizers and desserts

Ball Park- hotdogs/ brats, peanuts

Salad- or Soup and Salad

Meditterean Foods

New Orleans/ Cajun Food

German Foods

Heritage Foods- bring a food that represents your heritage

Soul Food

Philadelphia Foods- Cheesesteaks, cheesecake

Decade Foods- 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's

Pick an ingredient and everything has to have that in it- zucchini may be good for Sept. because it can be put into desserts as well as main dishes and side dishes. Or you could use a type of cheese or fruit. Or Peanut butter?

Which came First- has to be made with chicken and/or egg

Or pick a color and everything has to be/ have that color

Breakfast foods

Pizzas- there are so many different kinds!

Finger Foods

Sphere shaped foods or square foods or triangles or. . .

Restaurant copy-cats (think of those yummy Red Lobster bisquits!)

I had a pop day with my class last year and asked them to bring something related to "pop". We had different kinds of popcorn, pop rocks, Rice Krispies Treats(snap, crackle, pop), and of course pop. It was really funny.

High English Tea

Fire and Ice- either spicy food or something cool

Sweet and Sour- either something sweet or something sour

Dinner and a Movie Theme- Favorite food from a movie (Spaghetti and Meatballs from Lady and the Tramp or Fried Green Tomatoes)

Food that starts with the letter ___-

Books and Food- Green Eggs and Ham anyone?

Chilli Cook-off

Tropical Paradise

5 Ingredients or Less

Stuff It! - everything has to be stuffed from stuffed green peppers to calzones to chocolate filled cookies

Budget Stretchers- foods that you cook when you are on a budget

Vegan/ Vegetarian

Chuckwagon Supper

The Outback

Hope this helped!

We do Eat Day on payday at our school. Each grade level is responsible for decorating/providing dessert. Some months we order take out from places that will accomodate early lunches and other months it's potluck.

I like the lunchbox theme. However, the first thing I thought of was fall fruits such as apples and pumpkins.
