Bell Ringer Suggestions
Old 09-06-2007, 12:40 PM

I am student teaching, and my co-op suggested I include some bell ringer activities to the beginning of my lessons. I am looking for any suggestions. What you think about a quote of the day or a list of "this day in history" kind of things? I have 10th grade and 12th grade students if this helps you make age-appropriate suggestions.

Thanks

in history would be a good bell ringer activity for the grade level of students that you have. You might want to check the bell ringer or test over some of the material so that it has meaning for the students, not just something they do when they come into the room.

Another option is to have students write mulitple choice questions on the material you just covered. It helps them process the information ona deaper level, and you could always include the good ones in a test, in the end at least each student will get one right.

I like to do a "whip around" with my class. I have the students write 3 things they learned the previous class. Then they all stand up. Students go around the room saying one of the things on their list. the other students listen and cross off anything on thier list that was already said. once all three things on their list was said the student sits down. You continue until everyone is sitting. Students get excited to get to get out of their seats for a little bit and it serves as a good review.. It gives the teacher an opportunity to see what was learned and what needs to be retaught.

I am going to use this on Monday. Our school district has been drilling us to do mini-assessments. This completes that task! Thanks a million
