So Excited by Daily 5

I teach third and I spent the first 2-3 weeks getting my class in a routine. I am so thrilled with how things are going. I now have a rotation of a variation of the Daily 5. I call mine the Daily 3: Read to Self, Partner Read, and Journal Writing. They are doing great. Now I am starting my small group work and conferencing. i already feel like I have such a handle on who has trouble with comprehension, fluency, accuracy, etc. What I need now is some ideas for how to help those with fluency , comprehension, accuracy issues. Any suggestions!

I'm excited for you!!! You might want to look at the book Making Small Groups Work by Debbie Diller. I just ordered it, but it is available to read only online at Stenhouse publishers.

Hey there...

I just spent about 30 minutes reading your previous posts and responses from folks about utilizing Daily 5 as well as your basal (mine is Treasures). I'm wondering what you ended up doing. What does your schedule look like?

I teach 4th in Evanston.

Thanks!

I am using the daily 5 in my 2nd grade classroom this year and I absolutely love it. The best part of it is that the kids love it too!
I too feel like I have a good handle on who can do what and who needs help with what....
Our district got Rigby's Literacy by Design and the parts fit with the daily 5 perfectly!

Daily 5 and Cafe Menu

The same authors of The Daily 5 have a book titled The CAFE Book that is a great follow-up to The Daily 5 and is amazing. I would highly recommend it!!! It's a student goal setting program/system that gives you ideas on how to document student progress, teach student "strategy" groups and meet all the needs of all the students. With teaching ideas, books, etc. I LOVE 'EM BOTH!!! I'm very proud and excited to see what gains my students will have at the end of the year )

You may want to look at The CAFE Book, also by "The Sisters". It's more involved than The Daily Five, but goes right along with it. Good luck!
