GED Teacher Ideas

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I just signed on as the new GED teacher for youth in my district. I have all the GED materials, but I am looking for ideas and suggestions to make the classroom a success. The class is open and students will work at their own pace in the core content areas. The students have to class for at least 8 hours per week to check, pick up work, questions, and turn in work. I want to create some kind of conference and tracking form. I have to submit attendance and progress each week to my principal. My goal would also do some things to motivate them to attend and complete work. I welcome any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks!

Sorry I have no suggestion. But I'm curious, can you hold conferences with your students by skype and face time? Will video conferencing count for attendance?

Websites with tutorials

To begin with I would design my own form for conferences. Additionally, I teach HS SPED math and English and would suggest giving the students the following sites for tutorials:
http://www.hippocampus.org
(Pretty much every subject with an emphasis on math and science)
https://www.khanacademy.org
(Math, Science, and Humanities)

As for motivation, it needs to be individualized. Building good relationships is one of the greatest indicators of student success. Good luck in your new endeavor! 😀
