Received a $1000 donation

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi All,
one of my student's parent works for a company who gave me $1000 to spend for educational purposes for my 6th graders. I have some ideas about how to spend the money (gizmos subscription, field trips, etc) but because it's such a generous contribution, I want it to be memorable to my students.
Can you please give me some suggestions?
Thank you.

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't it considered unethical to accept such a large monetary donation from a parent?

Not that it isn't awesome, but at least where I live, you would have to report to your P and most likely could not accept the money.

We have to have donations approved by the board, but the P handles that.

Are you allowed to purchase technology? We have to make sure the tech Dept. approves what we purchase because they are responsible for maintaining the items. I would love to have a class set of chrome books, or at least enough for a center. (We need to share, and it's a pain to check them out and in,)

Congratulations!

A $1000.00 donation is a dream come true! I would purchase coloring supplies, bulletin board posters with the standards you are required to teach, sturdy privacy dividers for tests/quizzes, or technology. Please keep us posted .

I was wondering how the school would respond to that too!

Could you have the students submit anonymous suggestions to a box? I think a field trip is a great idea or iPads! That's a tough decision.

Thank you all for your suggestions. In the end, I decided on a field trip. I just haven't decided which one, but I was thinking of taking the 6th graders to a musical or to show.'
