Student teaching...Would you rather a full day or half day?

If you had the option to student teach for a full-day over the course of a semester, or have your assignment split into a half-day, spanning over the entire school year (August to May), which would you choose and why?

Full day. Teaching is exhausting mentally and you need to experience what it's like to do it all day, every day. Plus then you see more different groups of kids if you are in MS or HS or what a full day with all the transitions is like in ES.

And then you'll be done sooner and can apply for jobs.

I am thinking full day as well. This is for a Masters in the Arts of Teaching. If I do half day, I would need to take two master's level classes in the Fall, which ill be student teaching and taking coursework in the same semester. If I take full day, I will be done with all my coursework by the time I start student teaching.

Full day for sure. Embrace the reality of what teaching is like. You will be far better prepared.

I would say a full day. Teaching takes a type of stamina.. especially when you are teaching over 6 months. I think that will prepare you more than teaching a full year for 1/2 a day. If you are planning on becoming a full time teacher .. I'd do the full time experience. If you are planning on teaching 1/2 days then do half day. I know some teachers do half day teaching. We have a few at my school. I'd love that type of position!

I was previously student teaching half a day for one semester, and I am now in a class half a day for the entire year. I like it better for the whole year, that way I can get to know the students better and be able to teach them for an entire year. I feel that it is also helpful to build confidence if you are with a class for the whole year instead for just a semester.

Half day if it means a full year. The job really changes from August to May.

I think a full day of teaching gives you more of a feel of what it is like to teach.

I haven't started my student teaching yet, but if I had a choice I would go with full day. I think the experience would be better.
