Number of Sick and Personal Days

Someone else's post had me wondering...how many sick and personal days does your school district give you?

We get 10 days to use as we please, but with an unplanned surgery, strep throat and 2 colds, I've almost used all of mine!

We get 3 personal days and 10 sick days per year.

Yes -- our days took I over. Any personal days not taken roll into sick days.

We get 2 discretionary days and 2 personal days each year, and none roll over. We get 15 sick days a year and can accumulate up to 150.

3 personal days and 12 sick leave days. No time off without pay.

Several years ago my admin said that we could not take time without pay to attend events such as accompanying hubs to conventions etc. At that time I had already previously planned a wine cruise so I appealed to the HR director. She granted my leave when she found out that I was going with her fav winery. Lucky me! I made sure to give her one of their best wines!

We had crappy pay according to cost of living, but we a total of 18 days, 6 of which could be used as personal. Everything rolled over, but the personal days turned into/stayed sick days if you didn't use them that year. In other words, if you used 2 sick and 1 personal, you rolled over 15 sick days.

We get 10 days each year to use as we please. Luckily, I had a lot saved up before my surgery this year. I can miss a full quarter if I need to, but I hope that won't be necessary. We can also donate sick days to people who run out.

Sick and personal days

Clip to ScrapBook #15

10 sick and 2 personal.

Sick days are only used for medical issues, dr appointments, procedures, my own sickness, or my children's sickness.

2 personal days have to be approved 2 weeks beforehand. Which makes it tricky because sometimes I need a day with family and it's not 2 weeks prior.

All roll over, so I was able to use all my sick days and personal days for my maternity leave. I saved all those up for 10 years so I could take 5 months off.

We get 20 sick days per year that roll over and accumulate to a maximum of 220 (x $50/day buy back at retirement) and 3 personal days per year (use them or lose them).

i'm pretty sure we get 8 sick days a year--and they roll over forever--and when you retire you can cash them out to pay for health insurance.

we used to get 9 a year ("one a month") and every so many years we would each "donate" 1 to our Sick Bank---if you have a big illness and run out of days, you can use from the Sick Bank. i'm not sure how that all plays out now. i've never had to use the Sick Bank or knew anyone who had. (i have 200 sick days banked since i'm OLD and rarely ever use a sick day.) this made me all the more relaxed about having to take 3 sick days in a row last week!

i did the math the other day and it didn't make sense, so i think we used to have our personal days roll over to sick??? but maybe not anymore.

we get 3 personal days a year and can bank 3--once we go over 6, we get the extra in $ in a summer paycheck.

it's pretty well-known in our district that people occasionally take a Mental Health sick day; we take Sick Days for doctor appointments; and we can do whatever we want on a Personal Day. We can also take a day without pay--i don't think anyone questions any of that.

We used to get 12 sick days and 2 personal days with the option of rolling a leftover day into a third personal day for the next year.

We got a new contract recently, and I think we get 15 sick days now. We can accrue days up to 300 I think.

I'm sure people are sick of me venting about contracted sick days.

Our contracts give us 10 sick and 4 personal days. But! Any sick days used count against you on your state evaluation. We were originally told so long as we had 10 or fewer sick days used, we would get full attendance points. NOT TRUE. The first year under this new system, I took one sick day. Out of the 20 points given on evals for attendance, they docked me 9 points.

The next year, a teacher on my grade level had eight absences, but they only docked her five points. We just don't know year to year how they will apply it.

Personal days and Leave Without Pay don't count against your eval. When I had the flu last year, I took Leave without Pay. I have 20840849849 sick days, but I had to take Leave Without Pay to preserve my eval score.

Oh and they don't cash out unused days at retirement, either.

Also, teachers in grades 1-12 only have 10 attendance points possible on their evals, but Kindergarten teachers have 20. It's ridiculous in the extreme.

that is just all kinds of wrong!!!

1. being dinged for staying home when sick! (you should spread your germs everywhere and do a crap job of teaching???) grrrrrr...

2. being encouraged to NOT use them and then you can use them for anything later? i would be using a lot of sick days my last 3 years of teaching!

i'm so sorry; that's just not right!

Which I am absolutely guilty of doing. I'd rather keep my bronchitis home, believe me.

This is my plan! I'll take however much time off that I've accrued in sick days before I officially retire.

And our union has been fighting this (and other parts of the eval system) in court for years now.

We get 10 sick days a year. 1 per month. They roll over each year. You can cash them in when you retire. (I have 180 sick days ) Personal days you earn 2 a year that can roll over till you get 7. Every 20 days of leave adds a month to retirement . I have in 25 years of experience . But only about 21 in retirement. I can see the end.

I had to go back and check mine. The last 2 years I got 10 and 2 personal, this year it's 9 sick and 3 personal. I also started with 19 when I first started because I had had taught elsewhere, so they gave some. If you don't use them they roll over, up to 150 I think. The personal days roll into sick days.

No penalty if we use sick days, but there is a (small) incentive if we have great attendance.

15 sick days a year. They can accumulate up to 265 days. I have 126 so far. We also get 3 personal days ( we don't have to disclose a reason) and they will accumulate up to 12. Any more than that they roll into a severance we get when we retire. We are paid for 1/4 of our unused days.

ECGen23 - Is NM unionized for teachers? I kind of got the feeling that it was from your previous posts. It seems like you could get the best possible score for that part of the evaluation and still be a crap teacher so it makes no sense to even count attendance as part of the evaluation.

In Florida, we are at-will but do not get punished (I'm sure teachers who are excessively absent could have their contracts not-renewed though) for taking our allotted sick/personal days. I feel like it's around 10 and personal days come from the same bank but you can only use a certain amount of your sick days as personal days.

We do have a union and negotiated contracts. Our contracts (from the district) give us sick days and the eval system (from the state) penalizes us for using what we're given. And test scores count for more than anything. We have a Value Added Measure (I think that's what it is called?) It's a murky, illogical system.

10 sick days, 2 personal days. Sick days roll over. Personal days roll over into sick leave.

A perk that is unusual--whatever of the 10 sick days we don't use during the year, we get paid $40 for each one at the end of the year, PLUS they roll over into our sick leave bank.

We have 10 sick days and 2 personal days. Sick days roll over up to 150 days, which can be used for a % at retirement.

Personal days will roll over as long as they are full days, 1/2 days do not.
