Hello,
Does anyone that teaches the 2- 2 and a half year old class
teach the alphabet to their kids and when in the school year do
you start. I am new to teaching age group: 2-2 and a half year
old.

When I taught preschool we taught the alphabet. Started at the beginning of the year.

When teaching the alphabet, it would be easier to teach each letter at a time in the beginning of the year and have an activity to go with each letter. Also use a tracing activity to have the students practice writing the letters. You can also have the students "air-write" the letters or have them pretend there is sand on their desks and have them write their letters in the "sand."

We used Zoophonics, it's multisensory and developmentally appropriate. One of my little guys who was non-verbal loved it and knew all the motions.

Phonological awareness more important

I think you should work on phonological awareness activities before teaching the alphabet. Children need to listen to environmental sounds, make different sounds, develop a sense of rhythm and rhyme, etc before learning about letters and sounds. Personally, I think 2 year olds do not need to learn the alphabet.
