How to spend a classroom budget

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hello! I have a nice chunk of start-up money to spend in my classroom yet this year. I am trying to figure out the most effective way to spend it. Veteran teachers - any suggestions on what a classroom budget should go towards?

Thank you!

That depends on the resources that are available to you already.
Do you need to set up a classroom library? You might need to purchase book bins and books.
Do you always have copy paper available to you or do you need to put that in your budget? We have that available and I use it to copy notebook paper so I don't have to spend my tiny budget on that.
Are you 1:1 or will you need a ton of pencils, crayons, markers, colored pencils, and white construction paper?
Do you need scissors?
Electric pencil sharpener?
Mailboxes for sorting all of the notes that go home?
I always order a ton of chart paper, sticky notes, composition books, folders, and Mr. Sketch markers.
I also make sure I have certain colors of construction paper to make fraction strips.

I think Owl98 gives good advice. Part of it depends upon the amount of money that you have, your classroom and what you have, and what subjects you teach. How long you've been teaching always plays into it too.
I usually use part of my budget for consumables, thinks like sticky notes, pencils, crayons, etc.
I use another part of my budget on things that will keep from year to year. I have enough book boxes but like to supplement my classroom library.
