Make verb index cards. Have students draw a card from a hat. Then they have to act that verb out for the class.

Allow them to create a collage of verbs from old newspapers and magazines.

Write some sentences with warn out vebs like went, walked, said ....
Then have them rewrite them with more vivid verbs.

I was just teaching verbs to my ELD class, and they LOVED Verbs Charades! first, assign them a verb to act out with a partner, the class has to guess what verb it is. then, i had them come back the next day and thinkg of their OWN verb to act out by themself.....they loved this game

Vivid Verbs

I also do a project called the Vivid Verb project. Basically, I have the students "collect" vivid verbs for a week in a notebook from their readings. I explain that Vivid Verbs are verbs that replace ordinary verbs and paint a clearer and more detailed picture in writing. After a week, students share their verb list with partners. Students choose one verb from their vivid verb list and create a collage to share with the class.

I start a unit lesson on verbs next week. I will be in an inclusion class, assisting with the verbs unit. I'm looking for hands on activities. Do you have any?

I made a life-sized outline drawing of myself on paper. Then students had to come up with verbs that parts of the body do. For example, your hand "writes" and your legs "run". Students would write words on notecards and then put that action word on the part of the body that it pertained to. I then put the poster up to display. Students added verbs as they thought of more.
