Found Out Student Teaching Placement!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I will be student teaching next year and recently found out I will be either in a 5th or 6th grade classroom at a middle school for the fall semester. I don't know the subject yet, but I preferenced 5th grade literacy so it will most likely be that. Does anyone have any advice for teaching middle schoolers? Any neat lesson plans that went really well? I am so excited, but also very nervous!

Thank you!

Congratulations! The only advice I have is to remember they are not your friends even if you watch the same shows or wear the same brands. Also, develop a thick skin if you don't have one already.

Middle schoolers are still really young. I switched from primary to middle school this year and I realized they are still young. When I think of teenagers I think of high schoolers now.

My advice is let you mentor teacher guide you. Really ask questions and ask her to share resources. Jump in and volunteer to run small groups or tutor during silent reading time or something. Really try to get as much experience teaching as you possibly can.
