Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hey guys. New to Pre- K. I am struggling with ideas on how to teach the alphabet. I have no curriculum. What order do you teach it in in your classroom? What does your daily Pre - K schedule look like? How many letters do you do a week? Also do you have centers in your classroom? What are they like and how do you rotate? Thanks in advance!

There is no order to teach the alphabet. You teach all the letters all the time. Teach letters by teaching children's names.

I agree with mkk365 that you should be teaching the letters all the time, but I always choose one a week to focus on and do special activities or crafts each week. I teach them in order, but I have heard many teachers teach letters in other orders(for example using Handwriting Without Tears curriculum). But when I started we had no money to buy any curriculum, so I researched and created my own.

Here is my schedule for my 4/5 prek class.

8:00-8:15 Arrival- unpack, morning activities, bathroom, prayer and opening song
8:15-8:45 Large Group- Bible story/ Religion, calendar, monthly concepts, songs, and story
8:45- 9:00 Bathroom Break
9:00- 10:00 Centers- reinforce monthly concepts (teacher led and student led)
10:00- 10:15 Snack
10:15-10:35 Gross Motor skill (gym)/bathroom
10:35-11:35 Centers
11:35-12:20 Bathroom and Lunch
12:20-12:40 Recess
12:40-12:50 Large Group- Review monthly concepts, nursery rhymes, songs and story
12:50- 1:00 Get ready and dismissal

I do centers and usually do four a day and the students go to each. One is usually a handwriting activity, one is a craft/art activity, one is a fine motor activity, and one is free choice (puzzles, little games I have, etc) or technology...I rotate the students every 15-20 minutes.

Hope this helps even though you asked awhile ago!
