What do your 5th graders (grades 4-6 may feel free to chime in!!!) have for recesses every day? We currently have a longer break at noon (abouy 30 minutes) and a short recess in the afternoon (15 minutes). Students have an in class break in the morning (use the restroom and have a snack and talk to friends), but we are considering adding a morning recess again due to research. Just curious what others do!

OUrs had a 15 min recess in AM and a 40 min lunch (20 min in cafeteria, 20 on playground) lunch was pretty late, so there was only about an hour and a half after that.

One fifteen minute recess. That is supposed to include time walking out and time walking in. We add five minutes daily more when possible.

A 45 minute lunch that's half and half recess/lunch - so that recess ends up being about 20 min. Also, a 20 min afternoon recess. So they get 40 min total. At our school, K-3 get three recesses a day and 4-5 get two.

15 minutes before lunch. We can take them out extra if we want, but it is hard to teach everything that needs to be taught in a day if you do.

Our county mandated it this year and I'm glad. Our students had none! Now it's ten minutes a day but my school needed some extra special time so we go fifty minutes for one day. Plus we only get 25 minutes for lunch (including waiting on the lunch line)🙁

30 minutes of PE everyday in addition to lunch which runs from 11:10-11:50 or to noon. That is to include eating and recess. About 20-30 minutes at lunch for the recess portion. We are in a private school.

(Monday is slightly different since we get an hour early)
We go about 1 1/2 get a 13 min break (this is for all of 4th-6th)
then our lunches are staggered so 5th grade lunch is then about 1 hour and 20 min. after recess ends.

We get a total of 45 min. for lunch and recess; I think they let them out of the cafeteria about 15-20 min. after they get there; whatever it is, they don't think it's enough play time but it's plenty

After that, we're in the classroom for 2 1/4 hours then go home. We only have PE twice a week.

The 5th graders where I sub don't even get recess every day! The classes take turns, and I think it works out to 2-3 times a week.

Even our little ones only have one recess attached to lunch. It's definitely not enough!

2 a day

We have 20 minutes before our lunch, and a 15 minute on in the afternoon. Not all schools in our district do a second recess in 5th grade. I think it's a good brain break.

10 mins mid morning and 10-20 at lunch, depending on how long it takes them to eat. School day ends at 2:00, so no afternoon recess.

Who makes decisions like that? Have they met any children? That is seriously ridiculous.

Whole school is allowed 15 min. (teacher supervises) morning. . . by choice and not on schedule. . .4-5th grade only do it when time allows???

Whole school get 50 min. for lunch 1/2 recess 1/2 lunch. . . includes standing in long lines and walking to the other end of the campus.

Whole school get 15 min. (yard duty supervises) in the afternoon
the 4th and 5th grade teachers alternate whole class PE 4 days per week for 30 min. at the end of the day. It is very structured and a true PE class.

--Because Kinder has aides they are outside more.

Recess

Just this past year we were told that it is state mandated for us to have a 30 minute recess and 2 shorter breaks during the day. Almost impossible to do with departmentalized grades and 2-man teams that have a boat load of curriculum to cover. I mainly used GoNoodle for daily brain breaks and 30 min. outdoor/indoor recess atleast 3 days a week.
