*Clothes. I buy clothes and shoes and bags for myself. I love clothes.
*Housecleaners. I admitted I can't do it all with DH ill. Now that I feel the effects, I hope to make this a lifelong splurge.
*Caregivers. I spend $4,000 a month (makes me queasy) on 3-hour a day morning caregivers for DH so I can go for a long walk and run errands.
*Gifts. I love getting a nice treat for someone else. I recently got DD and her husband (who did my taxes) a very expensive meal in San Diego.

We splurge on dining out and travel. Travel could be anything from a one night stay in a hotel to a 21 day cruise - we just like to go!

I splurge on shoes mostly. In the spring we splurge on flowers and plants for our yard. My DH splurges on golf equipment and greens fees. We both will splurge on any new innovative toys/furniture to keep our three cats interested, active, and well behaved

My house cleaner comes twice a month. Saves so many fights between Dh and me.
I don't consider the price or amount of gas I use. Must get out of the boonies.
I buy lunch out. A lot. Love my girlfriends!

I buy Coca-Cola in small glass bottles. I love the peppery taste of an ice-cold Coke and I drink one every once in awhile, like maybe once a week. Every once in a great while, like once or twice a year, we'll go down to Atlanta to a great restaurant like Bones and eat something fantastic.

Other than that, I just don't splurge on things. I think it's too much Yankee thrift in me.

My Doberman is my one real luxury. I spend money going to and competing with my dog at dog shows. During the last eight months we have traveled to NorCal, Arizona, and Nevada going to various shows. She became an AKC Champion at a big show in Las Vegas a couple of months ago. I have zero interest in LV casinos but the dog show was a ton of fun for me. We continue to compete but now our focus is obedience trials. We will be going to some shows in a beach town this summer. And that's where my disposable income goes!

I am a foodie so I spend more money on food by buying gourmet items and eating out.

Getting a mani /pedi is a splurge for me. I just do it for vacations, birthday and anniversary usually.

Receiving a massage is a splurge. I usually get a 90 minute Swedish. I need one now. It is a little slice of heaven.

A real awakening for me.....I don't really splurge on anything. I like shopping for food bargains and I hate buying clothes and shoes. I'm still getting used to living on a pension and Social Security. I have to start having some fun...and get me some vices. You all have given me some ideas!!

Well to cut this short I will say that I splurge on clothes, anything with 4 wheels and goes fast, travel and our most joyful splurge is to help our boys start their lives. We can do it and they appreciate our gifts. Life is good!

It is time to have fun girl. What do you like to do? Fun is still possible on a budget. I wish you lived close to me. We would have some fun together.

-Dh and I have a date night every Thursday. In summer, we go to the farmers market and have dinner at one of the many ethnic booths there. In winter, we get takeout or go to a movie.

-A massage is a birthday treat every year.

-I make sourdough bread every week. It saves money, and boy is it delicious!

-We hire someone to do the lawn, plow the snow, and occasionally to clean. We could theoretically do all these things ourselves, but we don't wanna.

-We enjoy a campfire outside on summer nights.

-We take occasional day trips to places in New England that interest us.

-We pay to take the bus to the airport when we travel so we don't have to drive in Boston.

-We are slowly taking the overseas trips we have been planning since we returned from the Peace Corps more than 40 years ago.

We splurge on travel, although stay within a strict budget. There will come a day when this option isn't practical, so I want to enjoy it while we are still mobile and active!

I like to go on day trips. DH doesn't like to ride vans or buses, but I have found a few groups that take trips where I can go on my own or with a friend. It's great because they drop you off and pick you up at the door...no worries about parking! We usually stop at a mall or restaurant also. I have been to the state fair, Broadway shows, upscale restaurants, historic cities, and museums.

I just splurge this evening!
Old 06-06-2017, 06:36 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #23

My splurges are:

Eating out - which we do quite often. No, I don't feel bad about it. I've cooked for years. I still cook sometimes.

Books - I just started this in January, and I am having the best time with it! I buy each grandchild a book each month. I have 6 grandchildren ranging in ages from 14 yo to 22 months.

Of course, there are some books that I really want the gkids to have. For more ideas, I have pinned quite a few book ideas on a board I have for this on Pinterest. I have bought most of the books from Amazon so when I put them in my cart, I also pin each particular book to that gchild's Library Board on my Pinterest page. This way I can keep track of what I've purchased for which gkid.

This really takes a while each month since I look for just the right book, plus just the right price. I enjoy it very much.

My last splurge is... fabric, patterns (pdfs are great!) and other sewing materials.

I use these to sew for the gkids mostly. I have had an Etsy shop plus sell at craft shows so have purchased materials to make things to sell. I buy 99% of these things online, too, since that is where I find the best buys -- the best fabrics at the best price.

I am very frugal and don't spend much money on clothes or shoes. However, I love to travel, so that's where my money goes. Even when traveling I do not spend much. I don't buy souvenirs or clothes, usually stay in budget accommodations and eat in inexpensive restaurants, although I will splurge on museum tickets if I really want to see something.

lisa53, I don't consider that splurging. It is more of a necessity! I do the same. I made sourdough bread or other breads using sourdough starter. So much better than anything I could buy in the store.
