Guided Reading Books suggestions

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I would like to post a donors choose project for guided reading books for my classroom, and wanted to know if you all had any recommendations. We have a set in our library, but the entire school shares it, and I always forget to take them out, and then feel badly if I keep them for too long. I'd like a set to keep in my classroom, just for me!

Do you have a set that you love for 1st grade? We use Fountas and Pinnell reading levels, so they would need to be leveled according to them.

Thanks!

My favorite publisher is Pioneer Valley Books. I just think the quality and content is better than most other publishers like Rigby or Scholastic. I also like the National Geographic Windows on Literacy series for nonfiction titles.

I tend to like shorter texts made specifically for Guided Reading to use in my small groups, but if you're looking for "mainstream" books, I love these series for first graders, which range from levels I-K:
- Fly Guy
- Iris and Walter
- Zelda and Ivy
- Pedro/Katie Woo
- Houndsley and Catina
- Upstairs Mouse, Downstairs Mole
- All the Cynthia Rylant series- Poppleton, Mr. Putter, Henry and Mudge
- Fox books by James Marshall
- Dragon books by Dav Pilkey
- Young Cam Jansen
- high rise private eyes
- Frog and Toad

The leveled sets from Booksource are fantastic and amazing discounts. I bought the sets with my grant money.
