Do I Need Vocational Cert in MA?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi. Hope you're having a great summer! I'm certified to teach 3 subjects in MA, for middle/HS. In my previous life I practiced architecture for 10 yrs. Recently I had a vocational principal seek me out. He wants to interview me for a vocational drafting teaching position. He's telling me that I couldn't teach under my academic license, which is a tech/engineering for grades 5 - 12 academic license. He's saying that because I'm not certified as a vocational teacher that I'd have to work as a long term sub until I got the voc certification. Is that correct?? And the process would take 6 months because of the exam schedule. Previously I worked at a vocational school teaching drafting as an elective (to both academic students and vocational students) with the certification I currently have, as a fully licensed teacher. Is this principal trying to save himself $$? I have no intentions of teaching as a sub.
