Snapshot of the Year

Clip to ScrapBook #1

The thread on the Busy Board about Lesson Planning inspired me to put together this document. I've heard of teachers mapping out the year, but I've never personally done it. I decided to go ahead and whip something together because I'm trying the reduce the number of decisions that I have to make once school starts so I can stick closer to contract hours.

I'll check this off as a summer pet project - Done
How about you? Do you have a school related to do that you hope to accomplish before school starts up?

Great job! I am working on smartboard presentations for a new reading program we have to stick to for the first trimester. After that I will work on a home study program for the new sight words.

Looks great! I just finished my curriculum map today. I, too, am hoping it helps me keep better work hours. I need to get more balance between work and personal life.

Wow, you put a lot of work into that. Did you come up with the literature or does your school system tell you what lit to use?

Thankfully, my son still takes a nap

I'm lucky to be in a district that let's each teacher pick his or her own literature for read alouds. We don't have a basal or required reading list. We just have to teach in a balanced literacy format: guided reading, shared reading, independent reading, read alouds, word study, writing workshop, etc.

Wow! Your snapshot is wonderful! Thanks for sharing your hard work! I was wondering like Marcimg about where you found the poems too, as I'm trying to do a poetry notebook next year!

What I have is just a mish mash of poems I have xeroxed from other teachers, but this book looks good if you need some poems:

Would you be willing to elaborate about your guided reading? I know I'm asking a lot, so if not I understand.

I wasn't clear. I was trying to find out if the students read the books you've listed under reading workshop or are these read alouds?

Oh, those are the read alouds. These are the books that we use for guided reading: http://www.townsendpress.com/our-boo...school-series/
