Another heartbroken resignation

The whole board meeting is on this tape. Kirstin Westcott begins speaking at about 1:33.
Although the non-response from the board seems cold, most open meeting laws forbid discussion of any matter not previously listed on the publicly posted agenda. I expect they heard her clearly. What they do is another matter.

I wonder what if anything the board did? At least the issues are public record. Hopefully something positive will come out of the teacher exposing these awful issues.

After the teacher reads her resignation letter, the board has absolutely no response. They just move on. Sad.

I hope this goes viral. School climate is everyone's responsibility - administration, school board, mayor, and probably even police. We have to make things safe for the kids who want to learn.

That was so painful to watch. My heart breaks for that teacher and her fellow staff members. Also for the couple trying to keep their beloved daughter out of that school. Shame on those that let the school deteriorate to that point. 7 different principals in 6 years??? That is horrible. So upsetting!

Checked out news stories from the area on her Golden Apple award and the fallout from her public statement. The local news stated that the superintendent did a news conference, but did not show her statement. The news person said that resources would be provided to teachers in the summer.

The statements made are the same ones we hear in school problem situations -"Big changes/support coming soon!" Yet, the listed supports in the press releases are the same old, same old ones.

Sadly, the school will not likely get the leadership needed. Whoever comes in and tries to change the responses to violent and abusive children will be hamstrung by poorly implemented restorative justice or PBIS solutions.

WOW. She spoke with such passion and sadness and represented her fellow teachers well. I can't believe they haven't all resigned. Shame on that BOE for letting this situation continue year after year.
