How do you grade in math?

So I've seen a lot lately of dropping grading by points, grades, etc. and going to using straight feedback. This is a great concept in a very perfect world. When grades have been the norm for years, I was wondering how this might work in a math class. Has anyone tried this? I'm open for the new way of assessing. Thoughts?

I think there are a couple of problems with dropping points/grades.

1. Points/grades are a form of feedback. How close was the assignment to expectations? How does my achievement fit with expected norms and with my peers' development?
2. I doubt that your Board of Ed is dropping the requirement for you to do report cards. How would you fulfill this requirement? In other words, how would you do a reporting period final assessment?

I don't think it's a good idea to "drop" grades. You need to ask yourself how to assess your students in a way that reflects and outcome/standard. By the way "dropping grades" does not necessarily mean ignoring or erasing data.
