Decisions....

Clip to ScrapBook #1

After many years of searching, I finally landed a job in VA - taught there 3 years and really liked it. Unfortunately, I did not get along with the new AP and she basically made my life H$ll while I was there. She ended up making up things against me so that I would not be rehired.

I threw in the towel, thinking that was it. I moved to MN - got my licenses there and have been searching for jobs since spring. Had a few interviews, but nothing offered. I moved to MN to be with my friend, but my own kids decided to stay in VA with their dad (I'm separated)

On a fluke, I got a call from a district in VA (the county next to my old school district) - I had a phone interview with them which I thought I didn't do so great on. Lo and behold, they called me today with a letter of intent and a job offer - step 6!!! It's middle school (I'd prefer high school) but it's a job!

Now my dilemma is - should I go back to VA to a sure job with benefits and retirement, or try to stick it out here in MN??? Like I mentioned, I've had no offers in MN and have had to resort to applying to parochial schools and charters (no offense - but I haven't had the best experience with either).

Looking for advice and/or suggestions

Thanks!

I'd go back, mostly to be closer to my kids.

My children would be a big factor. Plus, a job that is certain! Something may open up in MN, but one never knows! Choices can be difficult! Hope all works out for you.

Even for the short term.

You can always quit, but for now, it's sure money.

Yep, I'd go back. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

How old are your kids? I'd definitely move back to be near them assuming they're not adults (and even then, I'd probably move back in the situation you described). By "friend," do you mean a significant other? Do I remember you posting about this move before you did it? If so, I remember lots of thoughts about that decision at that time.

I'd most likely return to VA and take this job and enjoy extra time with my kids.

eta: yes, you are the one I remember. Your last post was 8 months ago and it was about whether or not you should move to be with your new boyfriend versus staying near your kids. I don't think you were on the same page with the suggestions given to you about the original move- your heart was in a different place than most of us thought ours would be. So I don't know if our suggestions will be helpful this time around, either. Good luck deciding. I'm sure this has not been an easy road.

I left VA for Florida and totally regret it. I'm too far from my kids (adults, but they live in Ohio) and the rest of my family. Didn't think that I would find that a problem, but I did way more than I thought I would. Teaching conditions are way better in VA than FL (don't know about MN) and I thought the grass would be greener, but I'm looking for work in VA, too!

I didn't read any reason for you to not take the job in VA.

Thank you everyone for all of your support - I have decided to take the job in VA - it is a good district and I can transfer my retirement account. I am getting older and need every thing I can get!
