where the students respond back to what you say. Then the lesson can begin.

Introductions

When you introduce yourself I think it would be nice to have a letter from their teacher along with a picture. As you share her letter the photograph can be passed around. I think having the tangible letter and pic will help ground the idea that another teacher will be there most of the year. Then I would post the letter and picture at eye level somewhere in the classroom for the students.

When you can tell they are not listening they may need a brain break. Have a few to try and see what works best.

Write to the teacher

Have each student write a letter to their teacher and introduce themselves. They should probably tell her three to five things about themselves.

This could be a good lesson on the parts of a friendly letter.

If you can add a photo of each child to their letters. This will help the teacher get to know the kids names before she comes back to school.

usually something cute is up on the wall when parents come for back to school night. Hopefully the team will have ideas for this. But if not you will want to do something with their photograph or a picture they drew......Look on Pinterest for ideas or ask here on pro teacher.

This is a good way to get them up and moving plus getting to know one another the first day.

First Day

As parents drop off their child the first day check with them on two things. What is their child doing for lunch? Make sure everyone remembered what they need. Also ask how their child is getting home that day. Write this information down.
