2nd Interview - 5 Minutes??

I had an interview for a position this morning with two principals (from two different elementary schools within a district) and a third administrator who didn't give me her title. It went well and I got an email through their online system this afternoon inviting me to "the next round of interviewing"....but the interview is only scheduled for 5 minutes. I don't think it was an error because there were a bunch of different 5 minute time slots open. What does this mean?? Isn't 5 minutes kind of weird??

That does sound unusual. But congratulations on making it to round two! Maybe all the principals who need to fill positions will be there so they can fight over you.

Keep us posted! Good luck!

My guess is they want to test you to see how well you think on your feet. Perhaps they will give a mock discipline scenario and want you to solve it quickly before it escalates. Whatever it is, good luck. Let us know how it went.

Yes, a 5 minute interview is weird. But, go ahead and go, and see what happens. Congrats on making it to round 2, it's always positive to be invited back.

Thanks everyone!
It's very weird. I don't know what to make of that. On another interview note (I had FOUR interviews this week...3 of which were today. I am exhausted.) an interview I had on Tuesday started calling my references today. My old assistant principal texted me to say they called her. Does that mean I'm going to be offered the job?? I've never had anyone check my references before without eventually making a job offer. It's for a reading specialist job, which is what I've wanted for 7 years!

It could be!!! I know I"ve had two interviews in the past two weeks for Literacy and Teaching positions and they are calling references. Becoming a Reading Specialists/Coach is an awesome accomplishment and I've served in that capacity for a year before moving back to Michigan. I also taught Second Grade for Seven years but I loved being a coach.

Not necessarily. Some places do reference checks on the top several candidates, and then they make the decision from there. So while it bodes well- you are definitely in their top 2 or 3- it does NOT automatically mean that you will be offered the job. Keep your fingers crossed and hopefully it will come through!

Hi!
The reading specialist job district called my supervisor from my last school 3 times (meaning they must have been very interested) but I don't think she actually ever called them back (we left on iffy terms, long story), so they ended up going with another candidate with less experience than me.
However....the five minute 2nd interview offered me the job! Hurray! It's not a reading specialist position, and it's only a 1 year contract, but it's a REALLY really nice district in a really nice area, so it's going to be a major upgrade from the interesting public schools I've been at in the past!
