Hi:
Can anyone please recommend a read aloud for grades 5 through 8? I would like one for each of the following:

Narrative Writing
Informational/Expository Writing
Persuasive Writing

I need to teach writing in short periods of time and I don't have any books. Thanks in advance.

Do you teach all of those grades at once?

Here are some good, short narrative mentor texts:
"Hey World Here I Am" by Jean Little
'The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros
"Marshfield Dreams When I Was a Kid" by Ralph Fletcher

3 through 8. I don't have a curriculum its just 45 minute blocks all day long.
It's really difficult with such a wide range.

Ok, as for persuasive, I'm not sure how beneficial this would be for 7/8th graders, but "Should there Be Zoos" by Tony Stead is a great read.
Here is an article with a differing point of view: https://www.theguardian.com/science/...-zoos-are-good
I don't know your access to technology, but one thing I do for my 4th or 5th graders is create text sets around a topic- there would be tons of links to websites...
For example: Are video games bad or good?
You just need to come up with some good topics.

I hope this makes sense. Tony Stead in general is a great resource. Capstone has worked with him to publish some student writing that I have used with my students.

And for informational, I'm going to suggest Ralph Fletcher's Craft Lessons. He has tons of mentor texts with lessons in his book.
