best practices for practicing spelling words?

Hello, fourth grade teachers!

I am a first-grade teacher facilitating a teacher study group on spelling instruction. The way that I approach spelling instruction at the first-grade level is obviously very different from how an intermediate teacher would approach it. I am asking for your best teaching practices or independent activities that you use with intermediate students to practice spelling words. Much thanks!

The last year I taught was 2015-2016 so who knows there may be new ways.
