Alternative for money when on maternity leave

Hi all, I am going through fertility treatments right now and hoping to be pregnant in the next few months. Doctors said very high chance that I will be pregnant within 3 months. Just trying to plan super far ahead and think about what options I may have to make some money once my child is born? I want to take off from teaching for a year once I finally do have a child. I have a financial back-up plan, I recently inherited quite a bit of money and a house that is on the market, but would like to make some of my own income.

Just wondering if anybody has experience doing something other than teaching? I don't think I could keep up with the demands of my job and take care of a newborn at the same time. I am crafty, I like tutoring, and I own my house with an office and lots of space.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe not right away, but once your baby is 4 months or so, maybe do an in-home daycare for just 1 or 2 other babies? Or a toddler or two. Maybe for other teachers so you can adapt to their schedule?

For one of my leaves (9 months) we lived on savings and cut back on spending. It was only for 9 months. For my second ds I stayed home almost two years, and I babysat my bff's DD, which worked out great. I'd watch one other child- she is a teacher, too. So I still had my vacation days off.

Good luck!

The only new mothers that made serious cash without paying out for child care/clothing/fuel etc were the ones that did in home childcare.

I knew a lot of RNs who would take a year off. They had their baby and maybe watch a sibling group. Or a 3 year old that wasn't a handful.

Great, definitely considering this! Would be great if I had 1 or 2 kids that could come every day. Just some extra cash to pay for things, obviously wouldn't pay the bills with it.

I know several teachers who teach online to kids in china thru a company called VIPkids. They make anywhere from 500-1000/month, depending on how often they do it. It's a lot of early morning hours, because of the time difference, but my friends really enjoy it and the company itself too.
