Just think we do not have to teach today. Yeah! The kids are always so excited it is next to impossible to teach them anything. But that is no longer our concern.

Happy Halloween to all retired teachers!

Ok, as I said before, I am the weird one!! I have been staying with my elderly dad for 3.5 month and go home on Saturday (oh yes...I will be posting!!!). I'm still working so have a class full of unknown critters. I So, So miss the excitement of Halloween and all the fun of it. I will be in the old folks home (P.C. assisted living) and I miss all that fun of real life. I know the critters are crazy, but I am so ok with that. It's one day a year. I always play a Halloween movie starring the twins Mary Kate & Ashley that my critters love. I miss sharing with them! Ok, I get it, i'm a super geek freak!!!

teachwonder, I felt that way about the day before Christmas Break and Valentine's day, but Halloween (and the week after) I'd happily have skipped every year!

Hurray! No class party, no hyper kids, no costume parade, no fall carnival... just World Series Game 6.

This is the second Halloween that I won't be at school, and I couldn't be happier. I am enjoying my morning coffee knowing that I will not be facing all of the holiday chaos at school. Retirement is the best.

Like travelingfar, this is my 2nd Halloween of retirement. I feel relief, pure relief, not dealing with Halloween at school.

Iím not going to deal with it at home either. I live at the top of a hill at the end of a cul de sac. We rarely get trick-or-treaters, none last year when I hoped theyíd come so DH could see them. This year I did not allow myself to buy candy only I will eat, did not carve a pumpkin, and wonít turn on the porch light. Kinda sad, but Iím moving on in life.

I'm not dealing with Halloween at home either, Amiga. We get hordes of children (at least 200) from outlying neighborhoods, and it is busy around here for hours. DH and I go out to dinner and avoid the whole thing.

So happy to not have to deal with the craziness! We donít get trick or treaters, so pretty much a normal day for me. And I couldnít be happier about it. Next year I will have an infant grandchild, but maybe Iíll be more into it when he/she is older and I can make a costume for the kiddo and maybe go out trick or treating or to an event.

I loved Halloween until I had parties with parents who d schedule two hours worth of crafts for twenty minutes of time, then take off to leave me with all the mess. It was so exhausting!

I would have loved it if I could have planned the parties myself. There was one year this mother wanted to make pumpkins out of balloons with pipe cleaners tied around them...she hadn't done one ahead to see how impossible they were to make. 22 frustrated eight year olds and no time for cookies. Not a good party. Of course it was all my fault.

I don't miss it at all. We didn't get to dress at school. I can't wait to see all the little babies tonight at NICU with their little Halloween onesies on. A lady collects them and puts them out for the parents to pick one. I am starting to help with the outfits.

Looking forward to a quiet evening watching Jeopardy, NCIS, Major Crimes, and keeping up with the World Series
This is my third year to miss classroom parties & the sugar hyped kids the following day.

This is my second Halloween to be retired.

We always ignored Halloween at my school but that didn't mean the kids weren't still incredibly hyped up so I don't miss it at all.

I do enjoy the neighborhood children coming to the door. We usually get 30-40 so it's not overwhelming.

Many here in RI still have no power from a surprise storm on Sunday so many are not going out. We have a huge bowl of candy and no takers-yikes.

no party planning during the half day off that is suppose to be for report cards, then throwing the always great party, gaining 3 pounds from stress eating candy and lugging home all the paperwork and zip files for grading at home. Ugh, how did I do it? Anyway Happy Mellow Halloween from Fort Lauderdale. Loving it!

Went to School

Had a friend email me that her infant was sick. I went in for her morning class in first grade. The kids were great and we all enjoyed what she had planned. In the afternoon I went to help at another school and ended up helping a first grade teacher by leading a game and reading a Halloween story.

It was great fun and I didn't have to plan any of it!!

This is the third Halloween I've not been a part of. I do not miss the dressing up in costumes, but miss the picture books and poetry I always shared with the class. Like some of you, sharing great stories and books with kids is what I miss the very most about teaching. The week leading up to Hallowen I always did a mini unit about skeletons so one project we did was make a skeleton with moveable joints (using paper fasteners). It was a great way to have them talk about what they learned, honed following oral directions skills as well as bring a little Halloween in.

With that being said, I am semi retired and opted out of working on Halloween!
