need songs that tell a story

Does anyone know of any good songs that tell a story that third graders would be able to understand? For example "The Coat of Many Colors" by Dolly Parten. I am trying to find current songs that are clean and easy to understand. Any suggestions???

Can't stop the feelin-justin Timberlake-from the Trolls movie soundtrack

Katy Perry-firework

Smashmouth-im a believer (the Monkees hit) and accidentally in love-both from the Shrek soundtrack

Everything is Awesome-from the Lego Movie
Pharell-Happy

Other artist ideas:
John Legend
Selena Gomez

Forgive my lack of editing. Too early for that. Have a great day!

Edmund Fitzgerald tells a story. Not sure how 3rd grade would do with it.

Eerie Canal is another one,

And check out this website...

Would Take Me Out to the Ballgame work? How about Daisy, Daisy (A Bicycle Built for Two)? How about I've Been Workin' on the Railroad.

Check out Tim Razinski's stuff. He's all about songs and stories.

Definitely not for 3rd graders, but for your own enjoyment, listen to A Boy Named Sue, performed by Johnny Cash, and the Great Smoke-off performed by Shel Silverstein, both written by Shel Silverstein.

Ballads

Not sure how 3rd graders would do with these, but Johnny Horton did MANY ballads: "The Battle of New Orleans","North to Alaska","Sink the Bismark","Johnny Reb", "Comanche (the Brave Horse)" ... the list goes on and on. There may be one that strikes a chord (sorry for the pun).

And they are clean!

How about "Lavender Blue, Dilly Dilly, Lavender Gray..."

The Night Chicago Died by Paper Lace or American Pie by Don McClean? Oldies but goodies for older students.

of a lovely lady,
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls,
All of them had hair of gold, like their mother,
The youngest one in curls...

What about "Wonder" by Natalie Merchant? With the new movie coming out, it might be relevant. She has said the song is about a child who is different and the way the world views him/her.
