Car cleaning (this one is always a big hit)
Christmas Eve (so a cheesy Christmas movie, PJ bottoms, slippers, cocoa)
Nacho night
Teapot with flavored teas
Baking
Smores/Campfire
Pasta night

I've also been Pinteresting gifts in a jar. Any of those could be adapted for a basket gift instead.

=)

You could do a gift certificate bouquet and the businesses may donate the gift certificates

A basket of Christmas candy jars or cookie mix jars decorated for Christmas and ready to give as gifts or use

Basket of Christmas themed non food kitchen items such as dish towels, table runner or mats, holiday hand soap, etc

Chocolate would be fun! You could fill with hot chocolate mix, cake mix, cookie mix and candy. Maybe a gift card for a chocolate pie at a local diner.

Pancake Basket- with a bright colored batter bowl (kind with a handle and spout), mix, real maple syrup, flavored syrups, a yellow happy face pancake turner (Amazon), maybe a griddle pan, then some add ins like chocolate chips, applesauce, pecans....

Cake Basket- bundt cake pan, bright colored batter bowl, bathing colored spatula for scraping the batter from the bowl, matching colored wire whisk, cake mixes, cake cook book, cake flour, some ready made icing, cake server, birthday candles, sprinkles....

Nuts- pecans, or pecan pie filling, walnuts in the shell , almonds or chocolate covered almonds, nut butters, nut cracker, candied nuts for salads, pistachios

Skin Care- body, face and feet lotions, exfoliating scrub, body wash, sun screen, natural sponge, loofa, pumice stone, make up remover pads, lip balm, toner (witch hazel), shaving gel, handmade soap bar,

Fix it! nails in different sizes, a small hammer, screws in different sizes, variety of picture hangers, Drain -O, plunger, Goo Gone, two screw drivers (one of each kind), WD40, stud finder, measuring tape....

Craft Basket- glue gun, glue sticks, styrofoam wreath, burlap ribbon for wreath base, unpainted bird house, paint brushes, adult coloring book, colored pens for book, drop cloth for protecting surfaces while working, Xacto knife, couple of small canvases to paint, double stick tape, hole puncher,

Off the top of my head, I remember these:

Italian food or any ethnic foods
Camping
Sports
Technology
Toys - can be broken down into a variety of themes
Game night
Date night
Pamper yourself
Organic food - our local Safeway donated a bunch of their organic brand items
Local museum passes
Amusement park/museum passes - most amusement parks/museums will send you two passes, sometimes a family pass
Gardening
Movie night
Summer fun

Plus reach out to your school families who own their own businesses, as well as local community. Most of them are used to being asked for donations.

Wow, lots of great ideas! But let's not forget a reader's basket. You could aim it toward either children or adults.

We have done baskets with lottery tickets. Get a table size x-Mas tree and put them on it.
