Book club suggestions

Clip to ScrapBook #1

When I taught middle school, I was an informed reader and could easily find books for book clubs and students. I am now a fourth grade teacher and am struggling with finding books that are appropriate and good reads for my students.

I want to start a book club, but want to give some suggestions so my students can choose the book we read for the club. I have thought about Wonder and Malala (for young readers).

What other new books would you suggest? Are there any websites you can recommend for fourth grade level books?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I plan on doing The One and Only Ivan this spring. It is an excellent story with many opportunities for reading standards, social skills, etc.

Is this a shared reading? Will all be reading the book? Last year I read aloud No Talking and then had several copies students used. It was a great realistic fiction for discussion.

My class is starting Because of Winn Dixie by Kate Dicamillo. It is a wonderful story with a happy ending. The topper for my class is that a couple of years ago the author actually visited my school.
Of course Wonder is a great read as is any of the Andrew Clements books.

or The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman. The fourth grade teacher read Wonder with her kids and then they went to the movie.
