I am about to do some mock runs with the videotaping, as I want to feature my next science unit in a few weeks. Does anyone have some advice on the dos and don'ts that I can play around with this week?

Here are a couple things I did:
  • Make sure you close your blinds to block the outside light. The light from outside will make your video turn dark.
  • If you are using group work...I told my students to speak up when I come to your group...whisper when I leave your group. That way, you only pick up the voices of the group you are recording. I (or my videographer) would use a thumbs up or thumbs down signal to encourage students to speak up or whisper.
Good Luck!

I want to make sure my video recorder is working and I may try this week as well. I thought about just sittingup the tripod and taping the first weekor so.

I teach Kindergarten and some true class clowns this year. I am planning on just setting the camera up in the room for a few days so the kids are used to it being in there and then taping the class during various exercises and show them how they look and sound on video in the classroom (do's and don'ts)
