We are looking into a program for fact fluency. Has anyone used Rocket Math? If so, what are your thoughts? Is it worth the expense? Thanks so much!

in your toolbox.

As to the expense, if you can't or don't want to do the expense of the actual Otter Creek/Rocket Math, google Spaceship Math or Dad's Worksheets (same thing.)

At the very least, you can try it out for a while.

I use the site that Lottalove mentioned. I have increased the timing to 2 minutes for 40 facts. I currently use the conventional facts. My students are doing much better with recall of facts than in past years. I also get positive comments from the 5th grade teachers about my students retaining those facts.

I have a super old version of Rocket Math that someone passed on to me many years ago. I teach 3rd, and I do 40 problems in 2 minutes with 37/40 needed to pass.

As another poster said, it's a great addition to the tool box. I also use Reflex math (which is pretty similar to Xtra math) for an online practice component.

I can say my students prefer my old, paper Rocket Math to practicing their facts online using Reflex. They love the challenge of it and are excited to move up to a higher level or move to the next operation. They also like the 'partner practice' they get to do before the test. And, of course, the test is thrilling as they try to beat the timer.

I don't know how much it currently costs or honestly, what the newest version looks like, but I think it's worth a try.
