Component 4 student need/professional need

Component 4 - Does my professional learning need and student learning need have to involve the whole class or can it be for my intervention (tier 2) group of kiddos. My students do not see the intervention specialist. I do their interventions and progress monitoring. Directions are unclear. I have also been told a conflicting information. Looking to finish that section of component 4 today.

From the EMC Lit C4 directions for professional learning components, 2017:

Quote:
When selecting a group of students for this portion of the portfolio entry, the student needs you consider must come from those identified from your current students and/or needs identified up to two school years preceding your submission of this portfolio entry. Any professional learning, advocacy, or collaborative activities must have taken place in the current or previous school year, with evidence of the impact of those activities during the current year.
Quote:

While the professional or student needs may be directly related to the subject/s you teach, you may include needs from the broader learning community, as long as addressing those needs is clearly connected to student learning and your practice.
Your PLN and SLN do not need to include your entire class. They need to relate to your practice and student learning. Using a sub-group from your class is fine.

I am a reading specialist and my PLN related to coaching a grade level PLC, so my practice was in working with teachers and the student learning impact was THEIR students, most of whom I did not work with directly. My SN was related to a new extended day program I started at my school that benefited students K-3, with data from almost 300 students. My score for C4 last year reflected clear/convincing evidence with no comments that indicated problems with my PN/SN section or evidence.

Wgreading-

When showing impact, did you use the same type of scores to show before and after effect of student learning as a result of what you did to meet PN and SN?

*Edited - I think I misunderstood your question*

I showed pre and post data for both the PN and SN. The data sets were not the same, and were not connected to my KoS/Unit other than that all of the pieces were related to literacy since that is my certification area.

For PN, I had grade level team feedback on the effectiveness of their PLC (pre and post coaching) and then student data from a PLC cycle earlier in the school year and a full PLC cycle with my coaching.

For SN, the data was specific to the program I started, which was targeting summer reading loss. That data included our entire student population K-2 and was organized to highlight data differences between students who participated in the program vs. those that did not.

Good morning WGReading... How did you present your PN data?

For the evidence of 'how' you met the Professional Learning Need, did you provide evidence of what you did? I have a lot of evidence showing the process/steps that I undertook to meet the professional learning need, and I feel like it's all critical evidence, so I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what to include. Any suggestions?

Thanks-
Deborah

For my 2 pages of evidence, I had 1 page of basically narrative evidence: a list of what I did for my professional growth (for me, that was attending a multi-day conference specific to the PN, doing quite a bit of professional reading, etc), and the "pre" feedback I received from the teachers. I thought of that page as how I identified the need and what I did to learn how I could address it.

My 2nd page was a data spreadsheet and "post" feedback from the teachers - the evidence that my work was effective.

How it is laid out varies a lot by the type of need, the evidence and data you have. In the cohort I participated in last year, we all had different formats for how we displayed our evidence. Look at what you have and think about how you could display as much as possible.

My PN was going to be creating and implementing engaging pheonemic awareness activities geared towards my tier 2 student to be used during intervention time. Iím confused on what I can use for evidence. I have been following a danstastoc blog and researching other sites to gather ideas for activities. How do I present this as evidence?

Do you want ideas how to meet the Professional learning need or how your learning impacts student learning?

I think the strongest evidence is showing how your actions improved student performance.

I'm having the same issue. I chose to attend a specific training to meet a specific professional need but I don't really have anything for evidence other than my certificate saying I was there.

I need ideas on how to meet my Professional Learning Need. I want to created engaging activities for my tier 2 kiddos. They seem to be getting very bored with the district mandated computer program. I want to add activities to keep them excited about learning.
How do I show evidence (that I need for the PN form)?
