Anyone with knowledge about this alternate assessment?
Our state is using it this year.

I find it very easy to use overall.

Everything is computer based. You fill out a few forms online for the student and it sets up everything for you. (There is another part to fill out about test taking as well.) It goes quickly however as it is mostly rating scales.

On the math and reading tests were it is just computer based, you just point and click-You give the student as much or as little assistance as is necessary.

On test items that require outside manipulatives or other products, like lower level math or writing, you are informed as the Educator as soon as the testlet opens.

I am going to a PD this summer put on by DLM to learn even more.

It is not too bad although where I am at we are required to do an hour training every year to keep up with it.

It is administered 1:1, which can be difficult depending on your class setup and the other adults in the room.

It is like MAP testing in that it is at the student's individual level.

So it can take forever or only 20 minutes.

But it is still way better than the old "Find a Strand or 20 and build a portfolio where we will judge everything you write down. And, oh, make sure to include blah, blah, blah, follow these directions and collate these numbers."

Ugh.

Hah! I missed that in our state.

Hopefully it does not swing back around any time soon.

It can be time consuming depending on the student. I hated all the random things we were supposed to have for the test. I usually didn't have most of them so I would have to substitute something else for the item.

while it is far superior to the previous--portfolios, strands, endlessly data collection, etc.--it still has a few quirks.

It can be tedious for some. The stories are soooo boring and unrealistic even for my lowest students. The math seems hopelessly random. You have one question about sorting and the next is a word problem??!!?? Who does that?

We are finding the eligibility requirements needlessly strident. Based on their criteria, we can allow only 1-2 of our students to test. We have more than that though we feel are eligible so we have to follow through with the documentation.

I still prefer it to the older ways though. I'll take it. I don't feel the test requirements are hard to sub so I've no issue there.
