The Widow's Broom by Chris Van Allsburg is a great one, especially for this time of year.

I always read it on Halloween and it is a good one for drawing conclusions. Try The Ghost Eyed Tree as well.

I love Chris Van Allsburg for drawing conclusions. The simplest book I use is "Two Bad Ants." The kids "get it" without much work. At the end of third I use several more of his books--The Wretched Stone and The Stranger. The teacher needs to give more guidance on these two, but it's awesome to see that they got it the second time around.

I hadn't thought of The Widow's Broom. I'm reading that next week for Halloween and I'll give drawing conclusions a try. We introduced it this week too. My read aloud is "Indian in the Cupboard" and it's been a great book for teaching drawing conclusions. Enjoy. I think the right book makes teaching this skill fun.
