Sewing: Piano bench cushion

Clip to ScrapBook #1

The piano bench cushion has been at church longer than I have (33 years). It's compressed, has holes, and I've re-sewn the corner straps more times than I can count. My gift to church is a new cushion. It took me 4 Hallmark Christmas movies (minus commercials) to do this because first I made a white cotton cover for the foam, like an under-cover.

It looks perfect! Nice corners - those are always hard for me.

Once a Home Ec teacher, always a sewer (or in modern terms, 'sewist').

It looks absolutely wonderful and very professional.

I love how you measure time.
Your report card comment would read "KeyKid uses appropriate non-standard units of measurement effectively."

What made this the most difficult is that I have foam-a-phobia. It's a texture thing. I cannot touch it without getting creeped out heebie jeebies. That's one reason I made the cotton under-cover, so that it wouldn't "stick" to the upholstery fabric. I wore medical gloves to get the foam into that cotton under-cover and while I hand-stitched it closed.

This started out with me just going to buy one. When I searched, they ran $100 to $150. Whaaaa?? Forget that, I'll make it. The foam piece alone would have been $39.99 regular price. I used a 50% off coupon for that. The outer fabric was in the remnant section. I already had white cotton at home. Plus 5.5 hours labor - maybe $100 would have been worth it!
