Clip to ScrapBook #1

In the Group Information and Profile Form, I have to submit evidence (progress charting, email records, ongoing note, other appropriate methods of sharing information) that I gathered information from at least two of the following sources: families, colleagues, professionals in the district or in the field, and/or other community members.

I had planned on using Parent/Family Letters from the beginning of the school year and our Kindergarten Screeners that are administered when the child registers for school.

My questions are....

1. Are these evidences 'on track'
2. Would I just show one of each to meet the 2 page limit? Or show on one page a Parent/Family Letter and on the other page a chart created to document children's baseline academics (the screener)?

I feel like I'm making this harder than it has to be!

Are the Parent/Family Letters 1-way or 2-way communication? If it isn't 2-way, it might not be the best source of information.

Are the screeners you talked about filled out by parents, a school psychologist, adminstrators? If so, they could be a good source of information.

The amount of evidence you show from each information source depends on the strength of the information they provide and how they helped you plan your FA/SA/self-assessments for the unit you'll use for "Generation and Use of Assessment Data". That's how I made my choices, anyway.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your input! Yes, the screeners are completed during "interviews" with upcoming Kindergarteners by Kindergarten teachers. Solid info there - so I'll use that one for sure.

I keep ongoing notes about student behavior on a couple of my students. If I featured one, it would show documentation of phone conversations between me and the child's caregivers (his gandparents). They do not email or text. It shows 2-way communication, but it's all about behavior. Would that be strong evidence?

UGH!

Explain the Parent/Family letter. Is it a survey where you elicited info about your students? Or is it more "Welcome to my class, here's stuff you need to know blah blah"?

The Screener is data and data is good. I'd create a table of some sort to show all you collected.

I also teach K (ECGen) and I focused on how I got to know the whole child. They are more than letter recognition--they are kids who love superheroes, ones obsessed with LaBron James, or unicorns. They are kids whose moms ran off, or dad has cancer, or is in prison. That kind of stuff is really important in ECE.

I'm assuming the screener refers to an assessment, getting a baseline, and not people who administer it.

Yes! The Screener is an assessment.

The Parent Letter is an avenue for parents/caregivers to write down information that they believe I need to know about their child to better educate him/her. It is open ended/vague, and I get everything from 'he's a good boy' to 'his Dad beats him when he messes up'. It gives me insight as to how they 'see' their child. Plus I get way more info than I do on 'Meet the Teacher' night.

Most call that a "parent survey" and yes, that is typically an excellent source of info about your kids. Def use it!

I will make a chart and load in the info gathered from the K Screeners.
That will be one page.

The other evidence will be the Parent Letter.

My issue is...should I just scan in one letter from a parent? (with their permission) Will one letter accompanying the form be enough?

I used one as a representative example and included a breakdown of all the data I got from it.

This thread about parent surveys is really helpful. Thanks. Zia, you wrote

"I used one as a representative example and included a breakdown of all the data I got from it."

How did you show the breakdown of data you got from it? Did you describe it or make a chart or something else to include as evidence?
