Hey ladies,

I have another request and know my fellow teachers here can help out! I am looking for a big book with th or poem as well as a big book or poem or song to teach about the difference between vowels and consonants. It is difficult at first when you don't have all your resources built up so I appreciate all of your help!

Also can anyone suggest some books for text to text connections dealing with setting or plot?!

Learning the vowels

Project Reead calls the vowels star letters because every word has a vowel. I use a mitten with 5 stars attached. One star on every finger and each star has a vowel on it.

(She'll be coming around the mountain)

A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y (2x)
Oh, these are all the vowels
Yes these are all the vowels
A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y

I do a vowel count and have them graph. You could choose an easier poem or one that they are already learning in class.

Hi, I don't know if this company can help you being in the country you are, but to teach phonics, consonants, vowels (short and long) you really must check out this website. There should be samples also to see somewhere on the site.

The series 'Funny Photo Phonics' is amazing with new titles becoming available and the kids adore it.There are so many little readers, big books etc to help you. SO worthwhile!

Me again.... here's one you might like:

th is for thumbs

My thumbs help me do so much.
There’s so much they can do.
Throw a ball. Pull a thread.
How about you?

Sewing’s easy if I wear
a thimble on my thumb.
My thumbs are nimble
thanks to thimbles.
How about you?

Even though I like my toes
I can’t throw a ball with those.
Thumbs help my fingers
throw humdingers.
How about you?

... and one for sh-

Shelly sells seashells by the seashore.
The shells she sells are seashells I'm sure.
So If she sells seashells by the shore
I'm sure that the seashells are seashore shells.
