I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for holiday crafts and how to make a gingerbread house with my students. Thanks!

I make gingerbread houses every year with my students! We partner up with our 4th grade buddies and they help my first graders make them. We have the lunch room save milk cartons for us and we rinse them out and save them. I also have a letter that goes home with a list of what I want and asking for donations. It is so much fun. We use frosting for the glue and have TONS of fun candy for the kids to use to decorate..it is loud and crazy but soooo much fun.

I make houses

with my kids every year. I use graham crackers (2 full size and 2 half size for the sides, and two full size for the roof) and hot glue the houses together to make them sturdy. I remind my kids they may not eat the cracker part of the house. Then, I have parent helpers come in to help us decorate with frosting and candy (I ask for parents to donate the candy because it can get pricy.) The kids have a great time and they turn out very cute. Also, as for crafts, if you go to proteacher home page, on the right side you can click on a link for some crafts, I got some really cute ideas from it.

I also have my kids make gingerbread houses. We use milk cartons, 4- 1/2 sheets of graham crackers for the four sides and two 1/2 sheets for the roof. We use vanilla frosting as the "glue." I have parents donate all of the materials. The parents also come in and help! It is so much fun and they turn out great! I do this project during our ginderbread man unit.

We provide a template of a house on large white paper to all the students and then we send a not home to parents to take the template and copy on to poster, tag board, or even foam board. The students and their families decorate their house any way they want and then the students bring the house back to school and we show them off. This year they have been very creative!!!! Its not an actual Gingerbread house but they are really cute.

HI all,

Sorry for the delay for getting the parent note to you all...I have three computers and two memory sticks...I finally found the one I used last year!

We ran it on cute stationery and sent it home...good luck!
