I had finished sewing the 1000 squares back on Feb 28, 2020. I sewed a black border onto it and contacted my friend's sister, who has a huge long-arm quilting machine setup. She makes quilts and does quilting for her income. At that point, Covid shutdown had just happened so we decided to wait. In the meantime, I found the fabric I wanted for the backing and since it's base color was closer to navy, I ripped off the black border and put on a navy border. About a month ago, I made arrangements to meet the sister in a parking lot to hand off my supplies. She told me it would be about a month before she'd get to it, but it would be in line. I met her in another parking lot on Monday to exchange again. I spent last evening and today on the binding.
So very beautiful!! I love it every bit. I really like the backing fabric you chose as well. The quilting and the variegated thread really add to it. Enjoy being cozy in your beautiful workmanship over this holiday!
Did you sew it as a single project? I've heard some people sew these type squares as starters and stops when sewing other projects and then eventually have enogh for a secondary quilt. I've never done that. Just curious. Your quilt is truly amazing!!
Each square is 2” finished. 25 squares per row x 40 rows + 2” wide binding. Most fabrics are repeated 2-3 times. The first picture shows it on a double bed. It’s for me. I wanted it to be more generous than a typical throw size in both length and width. In reality, it’s probably close to a twin size.
