Stating the obvious…

The more years I sub, the more I am picky about the assignments I take. It amazes me, but doesn’t surprise me how I can have the same students in one teacher’s classroom stay focused and well behaved and have them in another teacher’s classroom and they are just all over the place loud and crazy. I try to sub only for teachers who run a structured and organized classroom because that’s how I am. My motto pretty much is even though a lot of these other teachers are nice, I don’t do crazy.

I subbed for about 6 1/2 years and as the years went by, I got more and more selective about the jobs I accepted. I retired from a large district with 20+ elementary schools and I began to limit my subbing to teachers who requested me, friendly staff and location.

Yes, what is taking me so long to GET this? Stop taking jobs at terrible schools!

Oh yeah, they offer $200/day.

Are there nice schools that offer $200/day? Must find.

I only sub by request anymore,I still manage to stay as busy as I need/want to be. Had a parent march to the principals office and complain cause she didn't like my tone. Enough already, honey people ask me to cover their classes because of my tone!!

I'm curious as to what grade you were subbing for that you had contact with a parent? I'm assuming it must be elementary when they were picking up their kid? I've never had contact with a parent as a sub, but I only sub for high school.

I was covering elementary, she was on campus for who knows what. We were walking back from library when the sky opened up with rain. I was trying to move them along she told we I was yelling, and didn’t like my tone. Whatever.
