Smart boards

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm starting to write a grant to get a smart board for my room (this is how I'm spending my break). I'm learning there are a few different ones out there! What one's do you have that you love? What accessories are a must have that I should include so I'm ready to go when I get it?

Thanks

Make sure you get one that hangs directly on the wall. Mine takes up a lot of space and drives me crazy .

I think that is what mine is. You also need an LCD projector. I have my board mounted on the wall and my projector mounted on the ceiling. That is ideal if you can get it that way. I'd also like, but don't have yet, a document camera. If I had lots of money, I would also like clickers for the SMArtboard.

You also need a laptop for the Smartboard. A scanner would also be great--you can take any page and project it on the Smartboard and make it "Smart aware" and write on it.

I have a wall mounted one too, with a projector hanging from the ceiling....its brilliant. I also have the Easiteach program.

Having said all this I have only just been given it in the last month and don't know much about them yet.

Does anyone have any good websites they use for their Smartboard???

Cheers,
Liv

I have a 72 inch wall-mounted SmartBoard with a ceiling-mounted projector. When I first had it, I used a stand and a laptop/projector on a cart. I didn't like that because I had to recalibrate the thing several times a class period. Wall mounting is the only way to go.

I ran my first SmartBoard with a laptop, but now I have a desktop. There's really not much difference in the running of the board, but I like the desktop better because it's newer and runs more programs.

I also have "clickers" for student use, a wireless AirLiner slate, a document camera, an audio enhancement system, and a scanner.

The school subscribes to United Streaming and Brain Pop, which are both great resources for SmartBoard-friendly resources. I'm not sure how old your textbooks are, but all of ours came with tons of online and CD activities that go great on the board.

What I have works well

What I have works well. I DON'T have a Smart Board and while there is one at my disposal in the empty classroom next to mine, I don't use it. What I use is an ELMO projector. I think this is the document camera someone said they would want. It is great because I can put anything (book, paper, experiment, etc) under the camera and the LCD projects it on the screen. If I want to display a webpage, Word document or PowerPoint presentation, I just click the LCD over to the laptop. I use the document camera for basically everything, grading math homework, discussing student writing, etc.

There are now much cheaper versions that are more portable. They aren't as sturdy but also not just as bulky.
