FCAT Strategy Posters

I am making FCAT Strategy Posters to place on top of my chalkboard. I want to place them when I get back in Jan. What I am hoping is for my students to rememebr the different kinds of strategies they can use. Does anyone have a list of test-taking strategies for reading and/or math?

Hi Sam
I teach 3rd grade as well...and your idea sounds fantastic.
Some of the strategies that I can think of are

Reading
1. Read the questions first, then read the passage.
2. Go back in the story and underline where you find the answer.
3. Reread the question to make sure you understand the question.

That is all my vacation mode brain can think of right now. But I think that I will be doing the same thing. Thank you for sharing.

Here is what I came up with. If you can give me any advice, please do. Two heads are better than one.

I would like to create ones for Math too.

One of our ProTeacher members, Florida teacher Mariely Sanchez, has some EXCELLENT resources on her web site! She has printable downloads for many areas, but also specifically for the FCAT. I use many of her resources with my students and I sing her praises to my colleagues!!

Ms. Sanchez' Class
(Go to "Teacher's Corner", ==> "Downloads" ==> "FCAT Resources")

Here's one of the downloads I am using (although I'm not in Florida):

(*Blushing*) Oh my..thank you for the compliment! I'm so happy to know that the resources I am placing on the site are helping a lot of teachers out there. I just made another big update yesterday on the site and I placed a lot more FCAT resources under the "Curriculum Resources" section in the Teacher's Corner as well. Creating the FCAT posters is a great idea! That's probably something I can try a whip up later on this week. Thanks again for all the compliments and the support. Have a great day everyone!

Just a suggestion... a friend of mine learned at a conference years ago. When you put the posters on the wall, place a solid color bulletin board paper behind each one - different colors for each reading, math, writing, etc.

When you have to removed the strategies posters before the test.. the solid color paper can be left on the wall... however, according to the person at her workshop - the color paper helps the child to better visualize what USED to be there when they look at it... especially if it's been there for the whole year.

She's done this for years (we're in TX), and she seems to think it helps her students remember the skills...
