Biographies

Does anyone have a good or interesting format for having students complete a biography? This is my first year in 4th and we have to do biographies for Black History Month. I would like to make them fun and interesting instead of a boring list of facts. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

We created Biography people out of construction paper. Then we used Kidspiration and created a biography web for our person. My third graders had fun with that.

Bio-folder & more

For our unit on biographies my students do bio-folder projects. They have a file folder which they designed like a book about their individual. They create a timeline about their lives, a poem sharing what made that person incredible, along with a portrait. Then they create a pipecleaner model of their individual. Last year I added a bio-cube to the project using the bio-cube maker from ReadWriteThink. My kids really seem to enjoy it as they get to express their information in a variety of ways rather than just a written report.

Go to Mrs Renz. On her site she has a biography report pack along with a list of people to do the research on which is linked up to information on that person.

We do research reports and have a "wax museum" where kids dress as the characters studied. Other classes come to "push their buttons" (spot on their shirts) and hear a short speech about the person studied. We do this a a whole fifth grade on the same day and the younger kids enjoy going from class to class hearing and seeing famous Americans.

Thanks for the ideas!
I like the file folder report. That way we can hang them outside our room.
