I want to do something more than just pass out cards and eat a snack.

What are you doing in your classrooms?

Does anyone have fun activities that do not involve food?

After reading The Book of Hugs and singing a song I have on tape called Four Hugs a Day, we measure our hugs. I have the kids cut out 2 hearts from a 4x4" piece of paper. While they are working on that I have one child at a time spread their arms straight out and I tear off a piece of adding machine tape as long as their arms are spread. They glue one heart on each end and in the middle of the tape they write: This is the size of my hug: _____inches, and fill in the measurement. We then fold them up and put them in an envelope for their parents. When they get home they ask their parents if they want a hug, when they say, sure, they give them their hug. Great gr 2 humor :-)

I love the idea of measuring their hugs! I think that will be so cute. (especially since we will have just learned measuring with inches)

Thanks for all the great ideas!

Cute idea! FYI: A child's arm span (from finger tip to finger tip) is the same as their height.

Someone here posted that they do a scrap book. Folded paper book that the kiddos attach their valentines to. they can add names, notes, stickers, pictures, drawings, whatever. Sounded fun.

I have a box decorating contest. This is the one time I really encourage the parents to get involved. The boxes are made at home. I give a special prize to one boy and one girl for the best overall box. They have really come up with some super creative ideas in the past. They get to look at all the boxes as they deliver their valentine's and treats. And before you ask, no I have never had tears or anything because someone didn't win. I go on and on about how difficult it was to decide, but there can only be two winners. Part of life is understanding that you don't always win.
