Has anyone used these yet? I've just started and was wondering if others had any success with them.

I think it is a quick way to review the weekly sight words from the story. The kids enjoy it. I find the kids don't practice the words at home. It is a great 1 - 2 minute time filler.

It's a 5 x 5 block grid with 5 words written in the blocks in various patterns. The children then read the words in them. I just started and am not sure that it's a really effective thing to be doing. I do find that those who do not study their words are seeming to get them now.

I'm a REALLY visual person. It's hard for me to picture. Does anyone have a sample I could see? Thanks in advance.

I had seen a rapid word chart online at a teacher's site and decided to try it...here's what I sent home in September...it wasn't something that I kept up with though...

I think that is a good idea. Can you share what website it is so that I can use the charts next year? Thanks for sharing.

This is a good idea for my low readers, the ones with poor fluency.
I'll give it a try this next week and see how it goes. I teach 3rd and 4th grade and have 2 lower kids that would help with their fluency.
Thanks!

Another variation for home :Dolch online

Children can practice at home in a similar way with an online timed slide show.
Here's the link for 2nd grade words (47 words)
http://www.mrsperkins.com/files/dolch/dolch2nd.pps

If you save the powerpoint to your computer you can change the time interval between slides eg to 0:03 seconds (it is set for 4 seconds)

Also available are:
Pre Primer Slide Show
Primer Slide Show
First Grade Slide Show
Third-Grade Slide Show

I like the 'Sight Words Buddy' which parents can download and save onto their home computer. It is not timed but a student could have ,say, 5 minutes to see how many words he can correctly read each day in the same time period. You can click for a score sheet.

The download link is at the bottom of the page:
