Maybe you could do something with what the children are doing or giving up for Lent. You could make it about sacrifice. You could also work on good deeds and have the kids do a good deed a day nad have it be 40 days of goodness, Good luck I hope these may of helped.

A giant calendar for the 40 day Lenten period ,after the style of MISSION TOGETHER'S, with a suggestion for each day- allow children to contribute to this, perhaps each make a square. ( see attachment for suggestions)

Hope these give you inspiration.

Lenten Prayer Path

I cut out 40 shapes to look like stepping stones and use them to make a path on our bulletin board. Together as a class we think of 40 people (pastors, soldiers, teachers, firefighters, doctors, parents, etc.)that we can pray for and write one name on each stepping stone. Each day we pray for those listed on the next stepping stone. To show that we have prayed for them, we post a die-cut cross on the stepping stone.

We made a cobblestone path and then I had each student trace their left and right shoe prints. On the left they wrote the station of the cross they were assigned and on the right they illustrated it. We put the feet on the path.(third grade)

What we do or what he did?

I like to think of Lent as the time when Jesus did it all for us instead of what we as sinners do.... maybe focusing on the cross, or the words he spoke on the cross could be good, too... There are so many things you can do with a cross - from paint and chalk to whatever...
