Our standardized test are coming up in March and I would
like to give my students something every morning. I brought
some Nerds, Sweethearts, Starburst, and some Kisses. A burst
of energy to do awesome. My mind is at a blank for for
kisses, nerds, and sweethearts. Any help will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks!!!

Some motivators that I use:

BUBBLE in each answer carefully, and you will do a SUPER job! (super bubble bubblegum)

You are a Marvelous & Magnificent test taker! (M&Ms)

You are a STAR test taker, so BURST into the test. Show your brilliance! (starbrsts)

Smarties know the keys to success! (Smarties)

More rewards

I meant to add this on to the Sweetheart reply. I've used some others with fifth graders: hi-5's around (or for tables, rows, entire class, etc; warm fuzzies - I like those big fuzzy balls for this for such a big effort - then we play a game with them such as tossing them at a target with a bulls' eye or labeling the target with rewards such as extra recess, free reading time, sitting with your best friend, special place at lunch, etc; a class cheer contest - OUTSIDE because we get noisy.

When scores come back, those who showed improvement in any area get picture and name on large "A Tip of the Hat to" board.

In Texas we take the TAKS, and someone forwarded along this tune...

The TAKS Song
(to the tune of "I Will Survive")

At first I was afraid, I was petrified.
Kept thinkin' I could never pass it even if I tried.
But then I spent so many nights
Thinkin' hard and thinkin' long,
And I grew strong,
And I learned how to carry on.

Now TAKS is back, from outer space.
I just walked in to find that test staring at me
right in the face.
I know that I can really rock.
I know that I have got the key.
And now I know it's all because
My teachers taught the strategies.

Go on now, go, walk to that door.
Just walk on through now,
'Cause you're not frightened anymore.
Weren't you the test that tried to
throw me off the trail?
Did I crumble?
Did you think I'd lay down and fail?

Oh no not I. I will survive.
Oh, as long as I know the strategies,
I know I'll stay alive.
I've got all my life to live,
I've got all my time to give and I'll survive.
I will survive. Hey, Hey!
