Ideas for famous people reports

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Every year I have students do a report about a famous person from our state. In the past I had students do a wax museum. This year I have 30 students and it will be too difficult to do that in the space I have. Does anyone have a creative idea on how to do fun reports about people in our state?

What about using 2 litter soda bottles and having them create a person using those? Foam balls (purchased at a craft store) can serve as the head of the character. The students could then use felt, material, etc. to create the famous person's clothing.

These can stand up in a display case, on a bookshelf, etc.

Clothes pins work wonderful too. Scrap pieces of material can be used to make clothes. Also, students can bring in old Barbie dolls (male and female). The students will love playing with dolls!!

Several months ago I read an article here by someone who had an alternative idea for Wax Musuem. I don't remember the idea, but I remember that it was something neat that I wanted to try. You might check the archives for the idea. Sorry I can't be more help, but if you find it, I think you'll like it.

Trading Cards

Hi there. Here's an idea I am planning on trying out this year:

Famous North Carolinian Trading Cards:
Students use MS publisher template to create trading cards including a picture of their famous North Carolinian (they will find this online and cite the source...great lesson on copyright here.), then they will include important facts on the reverse side. These will be printed off on the color printer and laminated.

Hi there! My fourth graders do a famous person report after reading a biography. Attached is the description of the talk show project. It's one of my favorite projects. It should take about 2 weeks. Suzanne

File Folder Reports

I just did file folder biography reports with my kids. I got the idea from Mrs. Renz's 4th grade class website (google it and it will come right up). I loved the idea. The kids do all kinds of things including writing a report, timeline, poem, etc. It was challenging for them, but they turned out well.
